Slept through my alarm, got up an hour late, could barely move. Coffee, and lots of directing kids to get dressed, brush teeth, pack clothes, get a jacket, etc. Eventually we got the house in order and our stuff packed, I loaded the truck, and off we headed. The kids are running on pure adrenaline, they are so excited to be going someplace different. Got through Indy in 2 hours, ran 80 a lot of the way. Got to South Bend 2 hours later, final 30 minutes to Lakeside. Just a glimpse of Lake Michigan but we’ll get the full meal deal tomorrow. Dillan is studying the Great Lakes and it has hit hime where we’re at and he’s excited. The kids are just excited, can’t say it enough, and try as they might they just can’t control themselves and are running wild and being crazy. Got to the house, it’s an old house and needs lots of work but the price is right, it has two bathrooms and five beds and a kitchen so it has everything we need. We checked it out awhile, the kids ran around outside, played tag some. Then we went into New Buffalo and got groceries. Got back to the house and ordered pizza from Mario’s and had it delivered, very tasty. By then it was dark, and we thought about starting a fire in the fire pit and having some s’mores – the conversations went thus: you rest so we’ll do it tomorrow or Tuesday, but it’s supposed to ran tomorrow and the wood will get wet, so it’ll be too wet on Tuesday too, so go ahead and start a fire tonight and we’ll have s’mores. Around 9:30pm we had the kids start getting ready for bed, brushing teeth, pajamas, etc. Ashley came by and said “Um, Daddy, there’s a raccoon in the kitchen.” So I go check it out and there’s a big raccoon in our kitchen, smelling and looking for the food, and seemingly unafraid of us. I made myself big and then started clapping and it went out the window it came in. It had pushed the screen completely in. It wasn’t afraid of me but it didn’t like the noise. So, the windows all got closed, the kids were freaked out now, afraid the big bad raccoon was going to get them, they became total scaredy cats. It was still looking in the kitchen window so I found a broom and chased it off the deck – bet the kids won’t forget this get-a-way! They wanted to play games instead of going to bed but we wouldn’t let them. Lesa and I caught up on email, checked with Sonja, etc and now I think it’s time for bed!
