We got up early enough but not too early. got the kids ready (like pulling teeth) and headed to the Michigan City Breakwater Lighthouse but missed the turnoff so we continued on to Dune’s National Park. Most of the beaches were closed because of erosion – global warming effect. Wound up going to Indiana Dune’s State Park and started at the Pavilion and Beach House where the kids went up Devil’s Slide and then we walked the beach toward Michigan skipping rocks and kids wading in Lake Michigan. They went up up Mt. Tom more than once and then would run down, Dillan face-planted his first time down. Then we went to the Nature Center, it was unstaffed but open. We all found something of interest like antlions – I lived my whole life so far and didn’t know about them things. Then we parked at Duneside Shelter and started down Trail #2 and was going to walk the 3 miles to the Boardwalk and we didn’t get very far and there were signs posted Trail #2 was closed. Bummer! So we went back to the beach and headed to Chicago, there were lots of seagulls and the kids chased them, and they waded some as did Lesa and me, and then the kids started digging which erupted into throwing sand at each other and Ashley got a face full – all in her mouth and nose and eyes and came back to us crying – so the digging stopped and it was sprinkling so were headed back to the car. On our way back to the house we stopped at the Michigan City Breakwater Lighthouse, there were red light-up signs saying how dangerous it was and how we were not supposed to go on the pier and such but we went anyway, all the way to the lighthouse where we took some photos and headed back. The water was getting choppy and starting to break over the pier, and the wind and mist was cold. As soon as we got off the pier you could tell a difference in the temp. Headed back to the house again and stopped at the grocery to get some root beer and it started pouring down rain, sheets and very heavy downpour, the streets were flooding. Got to the house and kids all took showers to get the sand out and then got on their tablets, Lesa started making tacos, I took a nap. After eating Lesa played Monopoly with the boys and I played Yahtzee with Ashley. Then the kids watched Mulan II on Disney Plus. I’m writing this while the kids watch. Will be bedtime after the movie. Well, didn’t finish before the movie, other things happened like spilled drink, prayers, scared kids. Ashley too scared to sleep, worried if robbers come I can’t stop them because I didn’t bring a gun. I had to tuck her in an hour after all the other kids were asleep because she got herself worked up. Lesa and I talked about that kind of stuff for awhile. We keep waiting for our raccoon to revisit but it hasn’t returned.
