Dave: Getting burned hurts, and it leaves scars that don’t go away [I showed him my burn scar on my leg].
Dave: And some stupid people will make fun of that kid for the way he looks, and they won’t even care how much it hurt when he got burned, and they won’t care about his feelings either.
Ashley: Yeah, like the burn scars on my hand. They won’t ever go away.
Dave: Ashley, come here. [I kissed her burned hand.] Your hand is beautiful to me, and I will kiss it for you for as long as you let me, even if you’re grown up. I’m sorry you had to meet a mean person already. There are lots of mean people, and some of them would hurt you kids even more than burning your hand, so you always be careful. Okay?
Dillan and Ashley: Okay, Daddy.
Ashley: I love you Daddy.
Dave: I love you too.
Ashley: I love you more.
