Lady Miners defeat winless Washington

Linton pounded out 10 hits as the Lady Miner softball team defeated winless Washington 7-2 Wednesday at home.

Izzy Carpenter tossed a three-hitter, earning her 10th victory in 16 decisions. She struck out seven and walked one.

The Lady Miners (12-8) committed one error.

“We played a much better game defensively than we did the night before against Shakamak,” said Linton coach Jill Flater. “We did a much better job on the bases and we were able make things happen with our bats.”

Bri Ward went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Hannah Gennicks collected two hits and Destiny Stephens also had a double and drove home one run.

Carpenter and Randi George both were credited with a base hit and one RBI. Taneal Church went 1-for-4 and batted in one run.

Brooke Baize and Brittany Burris each had a single in three at bats.

Washington dropped to 0-17.

There was no junior-varsity game.

Linton’s varsity will host Eastern at 4:30 p.m. today in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference contest. A JV contest is scheduled to follow.
