Open Arms Donor Event set for April 30
Each year, Open Arms Christian Ministries of Switz City hosts an afternoon meant to serve as a ‘Thank you’ to its donors, as well as serve as the organization’s annual meeting.
This year’s event will take place April 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Greene County Event Center, just across from the Open Arms campus in Switz City. Tours of the Open Arms campus are offered after the event.
The 2017 Open Arms Donor Event will feature guest speaker John Branyan.
Branyan is a standup comedian known for his ‘clean’ comedy, and plays various venues around the nation, often at Christian events. Branyan produces a comedy podcast, writes a blog and is a published author, most notably of the book ‘A Triune Tale of Diminutive Swine,’ a Shakespearean take on the classic story of the three little pigs.
His comedy can be viewed and heard at www.jbcomedy.webflow.io.
In keeping with this year’s choice of speaker, the theme for the event is “God Loves a Cheerful Giver,” based on 2 Corinthians 9:7, which reads: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Open Arms donors received invitations to the event, which is funded entirely by corporate sponsors.
This year’s sponsors are Redemption Church of Jasper, Dyar Real Estate and Powers Orthodontic.
The event is open to the public, but those wishing to attend must RSVP by visiting Open Arms’ Facebook page or their website at www.openarmschristian.com.
Free childcare, for kids age 7 and under, will be available at the event, featuring a clown and a silly-face photo booth. According to Open Arms Director of Development Sheila Corey, awards will also be given.
“We will award those people who have gone above and beyond, in monetary donations and donations of their time,” said Corey.
Open Arms educational division, Turning Point Education Center, now offers a free HSE (High School Equivalency) class in Jasonville. This class meets at the Lawton First Christian Church Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Students must be age 17 or older to enroll.
TPEC’s Adult Education classes are also offered in Bloomfield, Linton and Switz City, and due to a recent collaboration between the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, HIP Plus members can receive free vouchers to cover the cost of the HSE test.
For information on how to enroll in a class, contact Open Arms Adult Education Coordinator/Office Manager Michelle Ellis at 812-659-2533 ext. 226, or email her at michelle@openarmschristian.com.
