First day of Spring Break proper. Had Dillan fix the retaining wall blocks that have fallen, had Ashley muck her rabbit hutch, had Dwyane pick up trash in the yard, and had Bruce sweep the driveway. That didn’t sit well with Bruce. The intent was to get them outdoors on such a nice day and not sit around the whole day. I started to split the wood behind the garage and Dillan started stacking for me. I was using a maul and Dillan asked what the difference between a maul and an axe is so I explained that to him. Then I started telling him my plans for the yard, and said I needed to take a couple of trees down, one I could take down and the other I’d be leary about doing. I had him get the axe and I started whacking on the one, and then Dillan tried, and then we round-robined thgt tree. Bruce took a few whacks too. It was a big tree, took us almost two hours using an axe. We could have used a chainsaw but an axe was cooler – Dillan never chopped down a tree before. The boys gathered around to watch. Lesa asked why I was using an axe and I was like “Ugg-ugg [manly grunt] because I can” which the boys really liked. It was a big tree, and it made a lot of noise when it hit the ground. Dillan’s hands were vibrating, and mine have blisters, and the boys will never forget that tree or today! Took a shower, boys played on tablets, suppose Ashley played on hers as well, and we ate dinner sort of early so we could go to see Murder on the Orient Express at the Little Bedford Theatre. Second row, center seats and Lesa and I were so worried about the kids acting up but they did great. They had such an awesome time! Lots of thanks for taking us, and lots of talk after about the experience. Bruce was so into it – he was first to clap at set changes, he just knew for a fact who done it, it was fun watching the play through his eyes. Lesa was doing the same through Dwyane’s. Such a fun, fun night!
